First Hand Revelations

I have always been aware of the tremendous energy and incredible care which Darlene provides to our daughter.  Sometimes I feel guilty, and sometimes I actually feel [selfishly] relieved, that I get to go to work which provides me with about 60 hours a week of being removed from the day to days tasks and challenges of caring for Laura.

A couple weeks ago Darlene was called out of town for a [extended] family emergency and I found myself at home for 4 days with Laura. Saying it's a lot of work is a huge understatement and merely scraps the surface of the commitment necessary.

Between the feedings, tending to personal care and hygiene issues, staying engaged with Laura so she didn't get bored, and standing her every hour to aid in blood flow, relieve the pressure on her bottom, etc...I was exhausted by the time 10 pm rolled around.

2 of the days we walked to the neighborhood sandwich shop a little more than 1/2 mile away.  Other days I found other engaging things to do such as water flowers, read to her, and talk about the Baltimore Ravens - her favorite football team.

One lesson I learned through this whole experience was the amazing level of care that Darlene provides to our daughter. And for that I and all others who see or hear are fortunate to have a real example of unselfish love and commitment.
