Today marks the 2 year anniversary of Emily donating her precious bone marrow that saved Laura's life from some of the potential significant effects of this disease.
All's been going well. Laura has caregivers stay with her 3 days a week which allows Darlene to work two days a week and spend one day with friends, for shopping, and personal well being. The images below reflect some of what we've been involved in.
Laura has a need to stand every hour, to relieve pressure from endless sitting. When her brother Tim visits, he usually has enough time to hold her for 5 or 10 minutes.
Laura's sister, Emily joined us last month for a weekend at the beach, compliments of my brother Mark and his wife Amy.
The last image is of Laura sailing and handling the joystick/rudder. It's taken us some time to find some of the community resources available and we just learned about the accessible sailing program held by the Baltimore / Downtown Sailing Group. (http://www.downtownsailing.org/accessible). Experiences like this often result in Laura verbally expressing "Thank you". Unspoken, but deep within Laura's core we can feel that she really wants to say "Thanks Mom and Dad for spending time with me and letting me experience as much as possible". And moments like that give us the added strength to continue on the road we are on, with our full strength and energy.
