We just concluded a refreshing and encouraging weekend. Besides the spring-like weather, Darlene and I were able to spend some quality time together, complete a number of [small scaled] house projects, and actually go to church together for the first time in about three months. Usually we split our Sunday morning up with me going to the 9:00 service and Darlene going to the 10:45 service. Yesterday Laura was still sleeping so we left note by her bed telling her where we were.
We are starting to return to a normal pattern - if there is such a thing as normal. Within the next month this should become even easier as we are working with the county and arranging for 2 hours a day of in-home care for Laura. This will really help Darlene with her weekday schedule.
On Sunday morning Laura came down into the kitchen and helped Darlene prepare finger foods for a Cookie Lee jewelry party, presented by Ashley, which she was hosting that afternoon. This event was purposely set up as a fund raiser with half the profits designated for Laura's care. Darlene was able to spend a lot of time with her friends and the party was a huge success.
We were both deeply touched by the love and encouragement which so many shared with us. Further, we were extremely surprised and appreciative of the anonymous financial gift left on our kitchen counter. And today in the mail we received additional financial help from friends in our neihborhood. The generosity of friends, neighbors, family, and the church we attend is absolutely amazing. It's more then just the gifts, it's a real expression of love, support, and thoughtfulness - and the knowledge that we are not in this alone. Thank you all for being our friends.
